Becoming a P.E. has been a life-long goal for Ed since it runs in his family.

Vice President of Engineering, Ed Barth, started studying for his Professional Engineering Exam, Machine Design, and Materials, in January 2019. Becoming a P.E. has been a life-long goal for Ed since it runs in his family. His Grandpa and Aunt are both Professional Engineers.  

Some additional stress was added to Ed getting his P.E. due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His exam dates were canceled not once but twice (April 6th & May 1st). Finally, on May 15th, Ed was able to take the exam.  

If you're unfamiliar, the P.E. exam is an 8-hour exam. Ed finished in 6.5 hours while wearing a face mask the entire time. 

This spring was the first Computer-Based Testing exam for the Mechanical Discipline of the P.E. Traditionally, an engineer was allowed to take in as many books as they would like for reference to the written test. Now everything is computer-based, and one reference PDF is provided to use. The only items allowed into the testing center are your driver's license and locker key. No phones are allowed in the testing center or lockers, so Ed was required to take his back out to his car. The room he took the exam in had video and audio surveillance equipment to make sure everything was on the up and up. 

The following week Ed received his results and is now a Certified Professional Engineer. "In the end, the countless hours of studying were worth it, and I'm excited about what this certification brings in my profession here at Seifert Technologies. I've always looked up to our President, Tim Seifert, for having those two letters next to his name."
