Are you a job seeker in the tech industry?  If you have earned your competencies in the following fields you are on top of the trends.  Here are some things to focus on when considering additional areas of competency. The unemployment rate for IT professionals was just under 3% in September 2015, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Many CIOs say they realize that finding talent will be a tough and time-consuming endeavor.  How can you take advantage of this as a job seeker?  Hone in on some of the following areas.

Working in the Cloud:
There is a greater demand for workers skilled in cloud computing and cloud security. “There are 3.9 million jobs in the U.S. affiliated with cloud computing today with 384,478 in IT alone,” says Louis Columbus in a Forbes article
As more and more applications and software move to the cloud, jobs in these areas have accelerated.

As of April 21, 2015 the change to Googles algorithm prioritized websites with a strong mobile experience. A large number of companies are still scrambling to optimize their mobile websites.  They are continuing to suffer the wrath of the almighty Google algorithm’s search ranking.
Companies need a large number of capable iOS and Android application developers has grown. Today there are already 4 mobile devices to every computer.  The need for developers will continue to grow as we continue to rely more and more on our phones.

Data analysis and visualization skills have become important in a number of industries in both the private and in the public sector.
In its September 2014 report titled;“Fastest-Growing Tech Skills,” Dice;reported that the number of postings related to big data on its IT jobs site grew 56% year over year.
"With the growing emphasis on big data, data analytics and the need to mine huge stores of data into easily digestible, visible mediums for business value, GIS skills are becoming an important component in the job market."

Software Development:
IT departments are more likely to have job openings for programmers and developers than for any other position. For a business, bridging that gap and instilling communication between all pertinent teams from conception to delivery can result in faster delivery of higher quality products.
As the world continues to move this direction, DevOps engineers are in demand with software in the cloud.

User Interface (UI) Engineers:
UI engineers will become especially integral to the structure of a company as more companies move to create enterprise applications, software, and mobile apps. Creating software that works is different than creating software that is also intuitive and user-friendly.
